Home of Award Winning Vermont Maple Syrup and Natural Grass-fed Beef
For over 211 years, eight generations of Smiths have farmed more than 400 acres of pristine Vermont countryside producing a variety of quality agriculture products. We currently focus on making award winning Pure Vermont Maple Syrup and raising Grass-Fed/Finished Beef. Those longing for a rural experience rich in history and tradition may be interested in a stay at our Maple Crest Bed & Breakfast.
History of Smith Maple Crest Farm
Land was cleared to make way for the barn construction.
Dairy cows were raised for milk, sheep for wool, and access to "sugar bushes" were forged to allow easier production of maple syrup.
Our milk cows provided milk for our cheese factory, and we shipped our products to Boston via train and later by truck. The cheese factory closed in 1917.
Maple trees were planted 4 feet apart along the farm roadsides in 1950.
Milk production continued along with our production of maple syrup. The farmhouse takes in summer visitors.
Noted Poet, Robert Frost, visits the Smith Farm in Shrewsbury, VT during 1957 and strolls the maple sugarbush.

Maple Crest Bed and Breakfast was opened as "farm hosts" for the state of Vermont.
In 1982 it became a full-time Bed and Breakfast.
Beef cattle replaced the dairy herd and now graze our pastures and meadows.
We proudly offer our grass-fed / grass-finished farm raised beef for sale to the public, in retail cuts freshly frozen.
We have painstakingly combined the best of modern production technology with traditional sugaring methods without sacrificing taste, quality, or consistency of our award winning Vermont Maple Syrup. We feel that every bottle of syrup on our shelf should be award winning quality!
Smith Maple Crest Farm continues to be one of Shrewsbury, Vermont's last working farms. We are proud to be here.
